3. Counselling Agreement & Terms of Service

Nature of Therapy

Counselling is a collaborative therapeutic process intended to support emotional wellbeing, self-awareness and personal growth. Outcomes cannot be guaranteed and will vary between individuals.

Counselling does not replace medical or psychiatric care. If you are under medical supervision, you are encouraged to inform your healthcare provider that you are engaging in therapy.

Professional Standards

I adhere to the ethical frameworks of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the International Transactional Analysis Association (ITAA).

In accordance with professional requirements, I undertake regular clinical supervision. Client identity is protected in supervision discussions.

Booking & Payment

Sessions are:

  • Booked via Calendly

  • Confirmed upon receipt of payment

  • Paid in advance via Stripe

Session length:

  • 60 minutes (individual sessions)

  • 90 minutes (couples and family sessions)

Fees:

  • £90 (individual)

  • £120 (couples and family)

Cancellation Policy

Your appointment time is reserved exclusively for you.

  • A minimum of 48 hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule.

  • Cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice are charged in full.

  • Missed sessions are charged in full.

  • If you arrive late, the session will end at the scheduled time and may be shortened without fee reduction.

This policy ensures fairness and protects the sustainability of the practice.

Refund Policy

Fees are non-refundable except in exceptional circumstances at my discretion.

If therapy is ended, no further charges apply beyond sessions already booked.

Consumer Contracts Regulations

As sessions are time-specific appointments, the 14-day cooling-off period under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 does not apply once a session date has been reserved within that period.

By booking, you expressly consent to the service beginning at the scheduled time.

Confidentiality

All sessions are confidential except where:

  • There is risk of serious harm to you or others

  • There are safeguarding concerns involving children or vulnerable adults

  • Disclosure is required by law

Where possible, any limits to confidentiality will be discussed with you prior to disclosure.

Crisis & Emergency Support

Counselling sessions do not provide crisis or emergency services.

If you are in immediate danger within the UK, contact:

  • 999 (Emergency services)

  • NHS 111

  • Samaritans – 116 123

  • Your GP

If you are outside the UK, it is your responsibility to:

  • Be aware of emergency mental health services in the country in which you reside

  • Seek appropriate local crisis or medical support when required

You remain responsible for accessing emergency support outside scheduled sessions.

International Clients

If you are accessing counselling from outside the UK:

  • You are responsible for ensuring counselling is lawful in your jurisdiction.

  • You are responsible for knowing how to access emergency mental health services locally.

Suitability & Ending Therapy

I reserve the right to assess whether counselling is appropriate for your needs and may recommend alternative support where necessary.

Either party may end therapy at any time. Where possible, a closing session is encouraged.

Limitation of Liability

Nothing in this agreement excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence or any liability that cannot legally be excluded.

To the extent permitted by law, liability is limited to the fees paid for services.

Governing Law & Jurisdiction

This agreement, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with it (including non-contractual disputes or claims), shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.

The parties agree that the courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with this agreement.

No legal proceedings shall be brought in any jurisdiction outside England and Wales.
